The following neighborhoods are not the only safe neighborhoods in Gainesville but also some of the most popular.
Haile Plantation
Haile Plantation is one of the safest neighborhoods in Gainesville. It is a planned community in the southwestern corner of Gainesville. It offers plenty of single-family homes and townhouses, well-maintained parks, and a strong community spirit. It includes walking and biking trails, golf courses, and a vibrant yet peaceful commercial center. Haile Plantation is known for its strong homeowners’ association.
Duckpond
Duckpond lives up to its name–in other words, it really does have a duck pond. It sits in the middle of one of Gainesville’s oldest, safest, and most picturesque areas. It is home to many historic homes as well as many other housing options. Duckpond’s tree-lined avenues contribute to its peaceful atmosphere. Residents describe the neighborhood community as close-knit.
Northwest Gainesville
Northwest Gainesville is less than a neighborhood and more of an area of town. Within that area, however, many nice neighborhoods, such as Gainesville Country Club Estates, Mile Run, and Suburban Heights (see below), are popular among families. The area is liberally sprinkled with retiree households. Crime rates are low.
Jonesville
Jonesville, not to be confused with the infamous Jonestown, is located to the west of Gainesville. It is famous for its suburban charm and its safety. The Jonesville community consists largely of families and professionals. It is not far from downtown Gainesville, but it sometimes seems a world away. Jonesville includes parks, sports complexes, and various recreational facilities. Jonesville is a rapidly growing community.
Suburban Heights
Suburban Heights is about as sedate as its name indicates. Its population is relatively small, with an older population that includes many retirees. It is near I-75 and the North Florida Regional Medical Center. Nevertheless, it is close to a vibrant commercial district that includes shops and restaurants. Its population is not all retirees by any means. Nearby primary and secondary schools serve a significant population of school-age children.
University Park
University campus areas are typically safe, and University Park is no exception. University Park stands in contrast with Suburban Heights, with an average age of only 26. In addition to college students, the area hosts many young professionals. The area is very walkable (and joggable), and it’s not far from downtown. The area does not include the University of Florida campus, but is nearby. Affordable housing is plentiful.
Pleasant Street Historic District
Pleasant Street is–well, pleasant. Downright beautiful, in fact. So beautiful that the National Park Service has designated it a United States Historical District. Pleasant Hill sits on a 770-acre plot with hundreds of historic buildings, plenty of green space, and a quiet shopping district. As you might suspect, crime rates are low.
