The History of the Historic District in Ocala, FL

Ocala’s Historic District is a 172-acre section of the city that was developed between 1880 and 1930. In 1984, the area was designated as a U.S. Historic District. It contains over 200 historic homes and structures, many of which are striking examples of Queen Anne Revival, Frame Vernacular, and bungalow-style homes.

Much of the construction in the Historic District occurred during the boom in Florida of the 1910s and 1920s. The oldest part of the neighborhood is around King Street. Most of the homes in the area are private homes, but the Veranda is a Queen Anne Revival style home that now contains a collection of shops that are open to the public.

Damages Available in Historic District Personal Injury Cases

If you were injured in an accident in Ocala, FL, and another person was at fault, you may be able to seek compensation for your injuries and losses. There are two main types of damages available in personal injury cases: economic and non-economic damages.

Economic Damages

Economic damages, as the name suggests, relate to the financial costs stemming from an accident or injury. These may include:

  • Medical expenses
  • Property damage
  • Rehabilitation
  • Lost wages
  • Loss of future earning capacity

The purpose of economic damages is to compensate the victim for what they lost or will lose financially as a result of the accident.

Non-Economic Damages

Non-economic damages, on the other hand, relate to the intangible, emotional, or subjective costs of an accident or injury. These may include:

  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional anguish
  • Disability
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Loss of companionship or consortium

It’s difficult to place a dollar amount on these types of losses. However, the purpose of non-economic damages is to help make the victim “whole again” by financially compensating for the emotional toll and lifestyle changes they experience because of an accident.

Statute of Limitations in Florida Personal Injury Cases

In Florida, the statute of limitations for filing most personal injury claims based on another person’s negligence is two years. This means you have two years from the date of an accident to file a lawsuit. An experienced Florida personal injury lawyer can explain this deadline in more detail and will ensure that your case is filed on time.

What are our Ocala clients saying about us

Allen Law Firm is excellent. They explained the process to me and reviewed my case and accepted my case. Everyone I dealt with was very professional and always kept me updated. With that said, one person stood out over the rest. His name is Tim. A special thank you for all the conversations and time you took to answer my questions and walk me through the litigation steps. I would highly recommend anyone who needs a personal injury attorney to give Allen Law Firm their first pick. Again, thank you all who worked on my case!
